TECH TIP OF THE MONTH- DECEMBER: HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO CHANGE MY AIR FILTER?

A common question we get asked at the start of each season is how to tell when an air filter needs to be changed or cleaned. While it is difficult to provide an exact time frame for this, there are several key factors to look out for that will help indicate when it is time to change or clean your air filter. For instance, you should change or clean your air filter:
- If the air filter is gray and/or you see dirt and dust built up on the filter
- If the air filter has been in use longer than 1 month for 1" filters and 4-6 months for 4" media filters
- If you notice that your house is dustier than usual
- If you notice that your HVAC system is taking longer to cycle than usual
Changing or cleaning your air filter on a regular basis offers many benefits to the homeowner, as the HVAC system will ultimately perform better, offer greater comfort, provide better indoor air quality and be more energy efficient.
If you are concerned about forgetting when to change or clean your air filter, it is important that you have your HVAC system cleaned and checked at the start of every cooling and heating season.
